Orange County Arts Council invites you to virtually visit, via Zoom, the Warwick studio of photographer Claire Gilliam on Thursday, July 16, from 5-6:30 p.m.
Arts Outreach Virtual Studio Visits are presented by the council in partnership with Newburgh Free Library. Registration is necessary for this event and is available on the council’s website at www.ocartscouncil.org. Donations are appreciated.
Claire Gilliam was born in England and has lived in the United States since 1999, becoming an American citizen in 2017. In 1997, she graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in the UK with a BA in Fine Art. She completed the Professional Certificate in Photography at Rockport College, Maine, in 2000.
She has studied with photographers such as Arno Minkkinen and John Goodman, as well as master gelatin silver printer Chuck Kelton and master printmaker, Vijay Kumar. She is an assistant for photographer Barbara Mensch whose latest publication, “In the Shadow of Genius – The Brooklyn Bridge and its Creators,” she helped to design. In 2019, Claire became xo-president of the Board of Manhattan Graphics Center, a nonprofit, artist-run printmaking studio in midtown Manhattan.
Her work has been shown in Europe, throughout India, Sri Lanka and the USA, most recently at the Deutsches Haus at NYU and Gallery 1/1 in Seattle, Washington. Last November, she presented a solo exhibition of etchings and photograms titled “Life Lines” at Amity Gallery. Her work is held in several private and public collections, including The ICP Library Print Collection and the Goethe Institute.
Since 2003, she has made her home and studio in Warwick, together with her husband and two English Springer Spaniels. Her photography can be seen at www.clairegilliam.com.
