Uncle Shoehorn hosts fifth annual Corn Festival at Wright Family Farm
Warwick. Celebrate the end of summer on Saturday, September 7.
The Wright Family Farm at 329 Kings Highway in Warwick is the location for Uncle Shoehorn’s fifth annual Funky Corn Festival on Saturday, September 7 from noon to 6 p.m. Billed as a New Orleans music and heritage tribute act, Uncle Shoehorn and the New Yorleans Horns is collaborating once again with the Wright Family Farm to deliver what has become a September tradition – a perfect late summer day of family, food, music, and fun on the farm.
Now in its fifth year, Corn Fest features food and soft drinks provided by the Wright Family’s own food trucks. For the grownups, the beer garden offers an array of local Hudson Valley breweries’ beers and wines. The Wright Farm is again vending homemade candied kettle corn and Mexican-style street corn on the cob. Plenty of fresh, locally grown sweet corn from this year’s harvest will be available for sale.
The festival will also feature an array of merchandise vendors. Smiling Feet Records brings vinyl, CDs and music memorabilia. Hello Baby Boutique/Not Just Faces is back as well with face painting, temporary tattoos and toddler sized tie-dyes. JeJo Shirt Company will have a selection of graphic T-shirts, hoodies and tanks. Touch of Grey Designs brings handcrafted batik bags. Western Chic Boutique offers western and “boho” clothing and accessories. Cora’s Crochet Creations will be there with festival clothing, and hand-crocheted/knit items.
Other corn- and farm-themed attractions on the Wright Family Farm include the corn maze, which provides acres of corn fields in which to lose oneself, rides on the whimsical “Cow Train,” apple cannon target practice, a pedal car raceway, hourly blasts of the candy cannon shooting treats into the audience, duck races, corn hole games, and more.
At the center of the event on the main stage will be four live music acts beginning with youth band Chaos in the Kitchen, featuring budding musician and Wright family member Aubrey Wright. Tangent will play their blend of classic, contemporary, and alternative rock hits. Ryan Marks Band performs the funky, jam-filled music of Phish, Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam and 90s classics. And of course, headliners, Uncle Shoehorn’s Big Easy will pay homage to Dr. John, the Neville Bros., Trombone Shorty, The Meters, Professor Longhair and other luminaries of NOLA funk and jazz.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for kids between 4 and 12 years old (plus ticket fees). Children under 3 are free. It is recommended to pre-order tickets here: bit.ly/4dzQOMf.
