Uncle Shoehorn hosts annual Funky Corn Festival at Wright Family Farm
Warwick. Local Dance Party Band collaborates with multi-generational Warwick Valley farm to produce a ‘Late Summer Day of Family Fun, Food and Music.’
The Wright Family Farm at 329 Kings Highway in Warwick is the location for Uncle Shoehorn’s fourth annual Funky Corn Festival on Saturday, Sept. 2, from noon to 6 p.m.
The Hudson Valley musical group, the nine-piece Uncle Shoehorn, is known for producing “Funky Dance Parties,” bringing crowds to their feet to dance to classic R&B, horn-drenched New Orleans Funk, classic rock and more.
This special day of late summer fun is brought to you by a collaboration between Uncle Shoehorn and the Wright Family Farm.
The event will feature food and soft drinks provided by the Wright Family’s own food trucks.
The Wright Farm also recently acquired its beer and wine license and will be offering an array of local Hudson Valley breweries’ beers and wines for the adults.
The farm will also be vending homemade candied Kettle Korn and Mexican-style street corn on the cob. Fresh local sweet corn from this year’s harvest will also be available for sale.
Merchandise vendors Smiling Feet Vinyl, CDs and music memorabilia, Cosmic Crystals, Not Just Faces face painting and temporary tattoos and others will be selling an array of great items from apparel, jewelry, candles and perfumes to home décor, crystals, fashion accessories and more.
Also on site will be a glass blowing exhibit and shop.
Other corn- and farm-themed attractions on the Wright Family Farm include its amazing corn maze which provides acres of corn fields in which to lose oneself, rides on the whimsical “Cow Train,” Apple Cannon Target Practice, Pedal Car Raceway, hourly blasts of the Candy Cannon shooting treats into the audience, duck races and more.
Of course, no Corn Fest would be complete without a Corn Hole Game Tournament which is being hosted by local anti-hunger activism group, Backpack Snack Attack which will split the purse 50/50 with the winning team.
At the center of the event on the main stage will be four, live musical acts including Hudson Valley bluegrass favorites Moonshine Creek Bluegrass Band, the Rockabilly, Jump Blues and Western Swing sounds of the amazing Eugene Chrysler band and, of course, headliners, Uncle Shoehorn’s Funky Dance Party.
The fourth act will be a mashup of members from Uncle Shoehorn and Moonshine Creek, performing the music of Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band, Old and In the Way, and Garcia Grisman band under the name, Uncle Moonshine.
