    MONROE-The latest book in the series of Scholar Led Book Discussions is Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck on Monday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 to 9 p.m. Enjoy a spirited conversation with fellow readers, led by Keith Walters, a scholar and professor at Lehman College and Rockland Community College. Future titles in the series of Scholar Led Book Discussions are: The Awakening by Kate Chopin on Dec. 6; My Antonia by Willa Cather on March 21 and House of Mirth by Edith Wharton on May 2. All book discussions take place on Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Monroe Free Library at 44 Millpond Parkway in Monroe. Copies of each book will be available at the library in plenty of time to read before the discussion. • Enjoy the delicious goosebumps raised by some good ghost stories on Wednesday, Oct. 27, from 7-9 p.m. Fans of the frightening from age 10 and up are welcomed, although registration required. • A special story time Halloween Parade on Thursday, Oct. 28. will entrance young patrons who come in costume to hear slightly scary stories and march through the library. Two year olds and younger three year olds meet at 10:30; older threes, four and five year olds meet at 11:30. • Sample tasty treats and beverages at the Wine and Dessert Tasting on Friday, Oct. 29, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the library. The fare is courtesy of Star Liquors. $3 per person/$5 per couple. Registration required. It will be presented by the award- winning Periwinkle National Theatre Company, whose professionally performed plays motivate kids to make positive choices, on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. Registration begins Tuesday, Oct. 12. This play helps children in Kindergarten through Grade 3 to keep themselves safe, without scaring them. Little Red teaches not only abduction prevention, but also communication skills.
