Program director Congratulations to our wonderful art students! On Sept. 26, five senior citizen art students held their first art show with the help of their teacher Dani MacIntosh, president of the Orange County Art Federation and the Washingtonville Art Society. They had a great turnout and even sold a few pieces. Any senior citizen is welcome to participate in the art classes which are held at the Center every Thursday from 12:30 n 2:30 p.m. Enrollment is open and classes are only $5 each. For two weeks this month our Yoga class has changed. Classes will be held on Wednesdays, Oct. 13 and 20 from 11 a.m. to noon. There will be no yoga on Oct. 29. Election Day is only a month away; therefore, I am in the process of coordinating a "Meet the Candidates" day at the Senior Center on Friday, Oct. 15. I have invited the candidates running for the 19th District of Congress and the 97th Assembly District to visit their constituents from our senior citizen community. The first speaker shall begin at 11:30 a.m. Coffee, tea and light refreshments will be available. Please RSVP by Oct. 13. The AC Moore craft for this month will be on Monday, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. You will be creating a Holiday tree centerpiece. The cost is $7 and is due by Oct. 15. The book discussion group will be meeting on Friday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m. The discussion will be on the novel Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie. New participants are welcome. Once again, the Orange County Health Department is holding a flu and pneumonia shot clinic at the senior center. It will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 27, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The cost is $10 for a flu shot and $15 for a pneumonia shot. However, if a Medicare card is presented, there is no cost. No pre-registration is required.
