A new and bigger stage for Woodbury artist
Woodbury. Alex Prizgintas will be performing at the Towne Crier Cafe in Beacon August 18.
For the past two years, Alex Prizgintas has been paying his dues performing at libraries, community centers, historical societies, and retirement neighborhoods. “My audience has been mostly senior residents throughout our region and they have provided me with a rich opportunity to develop the many shows I offer as both cellist and lecturer,” explained Prizgintas. “I’m on the road more than 150 days of the year and my audience is honest about what does and does not work. With jazz, rock, Broadway, classical, and my many local history lectures, there is always room for improvement. I love them and they are my enthusiastic fan base. Today, I know I’m a better artist and lecturer for having them as a sounding board.”
Today, Prizgintas is finding bigger stages to play. That new venue will be the Salon Stage at the Towne Crier Cafe in Beacon, NY, on Sunday, August 18 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Towne Crier is a legendary venue for touring rock, blues, folk, and jazz touring artists that The New York Times describes as the “down-home access to world-class performers.”
According to Prizgintas, “Most often, cellist play concerts. I’m a little different in that I try to give a show.” He said his show offers more give-and-take with the audience while delivering bits of information revealing some of the background behind the melodies and the melody makers. Prizgintas’ narrator Viktor plays the part of Casey Kasem, Dr. Demento, and Wolfman Jack all while Prizgintas does his best to deliver a blend of Keith Richards and Yo-Yo Ma. As a team, they play off of each other’s strengths while sharing their joy of performing through this uniquely blended presentation.
