MONROE — The East-West School of Dance will present a Krishna Leela dance drama featuring colorful scenes from the life of Krishna this Saturday evening, Aug. 11, at the Blue Sky Center at the Ananda Ashram in Monroe.

This dance drama is presented in the Kathak style of North India with new musical score from India. Kathak, which means “telling a story,” is the dynamic classical dance style of North India.

Kathak dance creates a sense of splendor and power through a blending of lasya, graceful gestures and subtle facial expressions, with Tandava, a joyful, pure dance of intricate rhythms and dynamic intricate footwork.

In ancient times, the dance was performed in temples. Saturday’s performance is directed and choreographed by Pandit S.N. Charka.
