CORNWALL-ON-Hudson — The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum will host programs in the next several weeks about snapping turtles, bullfrogs and then one on snakes in the Hudson Valley.
On Saturday and Sunday, July 28 and 29, at 2:30 p.m. each day, learn about the largest frog species in New York, the Bullfrog.
Visitors will meet the museum's resident bullfrog and hear about its adaptations and habits. Visitors will also join museum staff while the
Exhibits at the Museum include The Hall of Animals, The World of Bees and The Brook Trout Exhibit. Museum admission is $3 and Museum members are free.
On Saturday, July 28, at 10 a.m., environmental educator Pam Golben will lead a program on Snapping Turtles.
New York State’s largest native turtle species, the Snapping Turtle is a common inhabitant of ponds throughout our state. Learn more about this ancient, adaptable reptile and meet a live snapping turtle.
On Saturday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m. and again at 11:30 a.m., Golben will lead a program designed to show that snakes are animals that are helpful to the environment and very misunderstood.
There will be live snakes to observe up-close plus snake artifacts available for hands on interaction. Make a snake craft to take home.
Both programs are recommended for adults with or without children and for children ages 5 and up, and will be held at the museum’s Outdoor Discovery Center located on Muser Drive, across from 174 Angola Road in Cornwall.
Admission, too, is the same: adults $7; children $5. Museum members: adults $5; children, $3.
