Thousands of area residents filled the banks of the Monroe Millponds on Tuesday evening, creating a festival-like atmosphere leading up to the 9:15 p.m. fireworks display. The sunny summer evening encouraged people - many sporting red, white and blue attire - to bring chairs, blankets and food hours ahead of time, giving them an opportunity to spend time with family and friends to mark the nation’s birthday.
