Local artist illustrates Arlo Guthrie's book 'Whose Moose Am I?"

GREENWOOD LAKE — Greenwood Lake resident Cindy Bradley has illustrated a children’s book written by beloved folksinger and lauded storyteller Arlo Guthrie.

"Whose Moose Am I?" was recently released and is currently available at Amazon.com and at risingsonrecords.com, featuring Bradley's acrylic interpretations of Guthrie's existential moose tale. This book is appealing to all ages, with Guthrie's lighthearted and amusing rhyming verse.

Bradley has worked for Rising Son Records, Guthrie’s record company, for nearly 20 years where she has designed album covers, merchandise and promotional materials for Guthrie’s touring schedule.

Bradley has illustrated other books, including "The Basics of Stocks, Bonds and Options" in 2000 and "Fish Tales" in 2009, but this is her first children’s book. She has designed album covers for Guthrie - including "Here Come The Kids," "4:20 Rehashed Sampler" and "32¢— Postage Due"- Folk Uke's "Reincarnation" and Willie Nelson and The Nelson Family's "Wild Horses" single.

In addition to her duties at Rising Son Records, Bradley also serves on the board of directors for Willie’s Kids, a not-for-profit organization created to educate children about the humane treatment of animals and founded by Willie Nelson’s daughter, Amy, and granddaughter, Raelyn. Willie’s Kids’ logo was also designed by Bradley.

Bradley grew up in Brewster, and graduated from Brewster High School and Manhattanville College in Purchase. Her association with Guthrie began when Bradley spearheaded an art program for children recovering from abuse for Guthrie’s not-for-profit organization, The Guthrie Center, named for Arlo’s parents, Woody and Marjorie Guthrie, in the early 1990s.

Guthrie echoes his father’s philosophies in "Whose Moose Am I?".

“My parents taught me that everything and everyone has a place in the world. Sometimes you find your place seemingly by accident, while for others, it can be a journey. If you are young enough to hear the voices of all living things, you may find yourself in this world and make friends simply by listening. At some point you may even be asked to join the conversation. That’s what happens in this book.”

Currently, Bradley lives in Greenwood Lake with Will Rogers and their two sons. She is presently at work on another children’s book based on a letter she received years ago from the late Pete Seeger, legendary folksinger and activist and long-time Hudson Valley resident.
